Our Mission
English On The Lizard takes a more holistic and personally dedicated approach to language learning than most institutions. Our custom courses and immersive programs are adaptive and designed to fulfil your precise learning needs and personal interests. Our concept is to combine specialised language tuition with guided tours exploring culture and landscape. However, we do not rely on mass-marketed textbooks for tuition or limit our excursions to typical tourist hotspots, instead we develop our own multi-media materials (relating to literature, art, film, history, music) and use our local knowledge and experience of the landscape to explore some of Cornwall's best kept secrets. We are very proud to have roots in such a wild and beautiful location and our aim is to share this devotion to place as well as our passion for languages in order to provide you with an unforgettable experience.
The Teacher
Hi, I'm Leon, and to misquote REM, that's me in the photo. I studied literature and love to read, write, play music and hike. I taught English as a foreign language for many years in Mexico and Barcelona and have returned now to my Cornish roots. The cultural and professional experience I gained teaching abroad has enriched my life and informed my philosophy as a language educator. My values and vision for learning do not conform to those of the conventional, now largely corporate education system. William Blake, the great visionary artist said it best: 'I must create a system of my own, or be enslaved by another man's'. This is the guiding principle and main motivation for setting up English on the Lizard.
